Swimming for Fitness and Healthy Weight Loss
Did you know that swimming is the best-possible form of exercise for fitness and healthy weight loss? It is the
best way you can improve your fitness level and burn some calories, and do so in a pleasant and safe environment
where you don't have to worry about the weather, you don't need expensive gym membership fees and you don't even
have to buy any expensive training equipment.
All you need is a simple swimming costume and a cheap set of plastic goggles to keep the pool chlorine from
stinging your eyes too much when you are swimming for fitness and health. All the regular swimmers have them.
Ladies, or guys with long hair might consider obtaining a rubber swimming cap as well, but that is purely
optional.
Swimming is a great exercise for people of both sexes and all ages, although the very young and the elderly or
infirm do need to be monitored in the water. And for small kids, they need to be watched every single minute. This
is where having a parent or responsible adult to care for supervise them is an absolute must-do. You can set that
in concrete. No exceptions.
If you're carrying excess pounds (or kilos), you will love being in the water because it supports most of your
weight. The pressure on your legs is much lighter, and you can get gentle exercise just by walking or wading... if
that's all you are up to at first, that is fine. Don't worry about it. You are using your muscles just by moving in
the water, and that's what aquarobics and similar classes are all about later. There are classes for oldies and for
kids, and there are easy levels and hard levels. Pick what is right for you and manage what you can.
If you can't swim properly, well now would be a good time to enrol in a class. Just ask the attendants or life
guards at your local swimming pool or, for those lucky enough to close to the seaside, at the local beach.
As long as you're able to swim safely, you can swim laps in a swimming pool. That's what I do to improve my
fitness. Just climb into the water, choose a swimming lane (they are marked with ropes or strings of plastic
floats) and swim to the far end and back. Take your time and breathe correctly. That's the whole key to swimming
properly. And remember to start small if you're a bit out of condition.
On the beach, if it is patrolled by life guards, you should always obey their directions because they know where
the rips and currents are. You don't want to become a statistic. And for safety reasons, you should always consult
your doctor before starting a new diet plan or an exercise regimen... just to be sure. Once your medico gives you
the 'all-clear' you can go swimming for fitness and health. Make it a regular routine and you will enjoy it, and so
will your body as it gets a little healthier each and every time.
